Traveling With Older Parents

It can be an exciting experience to go traveling with older parents. You can have a good time with your parents and have some experiences that you all can remember. But you will need to take into consideration a few valuable tips for traveling with older parents.

Your parents may be well into their sixties or seventies, so when traveling with older parents you should make sure that your itinerary is not overly fast paced. Older people also tend to get tired at a quicker rate, so you should not plan activities that can be easily tiring. You should not plan too many things in one day either, as your parents can be fatigued easily in this case.

Getting enough sleep for everyone is one of the tips for traveling with older parents that can help to make the trip better. You should have at least six to eight hours of sleep each night during the vacation. You should keep from having any activities after eleven in the evening. If there is a lot of walking then maybe preparing hot water in the bathroom bathtub can help to soak your parents’ legs.

Having enough medications that your parents may need is one of the most important tips for traveling with older parents. You should keep a list of the medications they need and have enough to last the entire trip and maybe an additional day in case of a delayed flight. Carrying a list of medical records and contact information should be used too in the event that any serious medical emergencies come about during the vacation.

Helping to give your parents a healthy diet is important. When traveling with older parents you don’t want to go on an empty stomach. Light and healthy meals throughout the day will be useful. These meals should be high in fiber and low in sugar or salt. You should have some high fiber snacks with you in the event that your parents become hungry and you are too far from an eating establishment. Plenty of water should be used too so that dehydration can be avoided.

Having a first aid kit is the last thing to do for traveling with older parents. You should have medicines for diarrhea, cold symptoms and fever. Adhesive bandages, sterile gauze, tweezers and a thermometer will be useful too. You should check the expiration dates of the medications so that you know that they are safe and will not be harmful.

Traveling with older parents can be enjoyable, and you can spent some great quality time with them. But when traveling with older parents you will need to bring the right materials with you and take the right precautions so that everyone will be safe.

My trip to The Gambia (Part III)

My trip to the Gambia (Part I)

Where the Hell is Matt

Life is a little like that.

Too Late! Too late we've past it - we were travelling on, obviously with some deadline not stated. Another 20 miles or so and again I stirred to my Father saying, 'too late we've past it'. It was many years later that I realised that the trips would ever be thus.

Outfoxing airlines unlikely to spare travelers American Airlines' baggage fee

Think you can weasel your way out of paying American Airlines' new $15 fee for checked bags? Don't bet on it. I twice tried to evade the fee Sunday by sneaking an oversized suitcase aboard American flights as a carry-on bag.
